Taming the Scotsman The MacAllisters Kinley MacGregor 9780380817917 Books

Ewan MacAllister is all of those things. He is also known as the "quiet" one. A bear of a man who lives in a cave. Sworn to never take pleasure in life because he blames himself for his brother Keiran's death. He feels a nasty sense of history repeating itself as Nora comes to him asking for his help in taking her to England to escape a marriage that she doesn't want. Just like Isobail, Kieran's betrothed, had done so many years earlier. Ewan doesn't agree, choosing instead to take her to his brother Lochlan, chief of their clan.

Along the journey many misadventures unfold. Some of which are brought about by a band of gypsies. These gypsies are more than what they seem. Lysander, handsome French knight. Pagan, tall with a foreign accent. No one knows who Pagan is or where he came from, but he's lethal just the same. Catarina, beautiful, exotic, and erotic. She and Lochlan strike sparks from the moment if first meeting. Hmmm.....I wonder? Lochlan will be the only unwed MacAllister left, Kieran notwithstanding. A messenger. A bag delivered. A remnant of the MacAllister plaid. A disembodied hand bearing a mark of captivity in Outremer. All raise questions no one has the answers for as surprising details emerge about Kieran, his supposed death, and the possibility that he yet lives. In the Author's note, MacGregor assures us that these questions will be answered. She has not written a new installment for this series since 2007. A bit disappointing.

You can read this book as Book Three of The MacAllister series or Book Four of The Brotherhood Of The Sword Series. I prefer to combine the two series because the characters in the MacAllister series overlap with those in the Brotherhood series and blend together to make an even greater reading tapestry because you see how the characters relate in the other books. Master Of Desire is a prequel to both the Brotherhood and MacAllister series because in Draven's story you meet his younger brother Simon, The Wraith of the Brotherhood series, and Sin MacAllister of the MacAllister series. Simon of Ravenswood is the next story in the reading order. Midsummer's Knight can be found in the Where's My Hero? anthology. Simon is the Darling Cruel of the Brotherhood. In his story you discover more about the Brotherhood and the Angel is introduced. She was the one woman who was also captive in a Saracen prison. The secret if her femininity was a well-guarded secret that the Quinfortis protected with their lives. She now works in the underground Brotherhood to see that more of those who are captured in the Crusades are returned home and reunited with their families.

There are many parallels between the Brotherhood and The League. The Quinfortis (the five) in the Brotherhood of the Sword are the medieval equivalent to the five who began the Sentella in the League novels. Ewan MacAllister bears a lot of resemblance to Dancer Hauk of The League series. Unfortunately, MacGregor has left us hanging with more questions than answers with this series since she hasn't written a new installment since 2007. The most pressing being that of who is the Scorpion? The Pagan? Here is the combined reading order.

Master Of Desire, Draven de Montague, 2001
Claiming The Highlander, Braden MacAlister, 2002
Born In Sin, Sin MacAllister, 2003

A Dark Champion, Stryder of Blackmoor, 2004
Return Of The Warrior, Christian of Acre, 2005

Taming the Scotsman The MacAllisters Kinley MacGregor 9780380817917 Books Reviews

I could not put this down and read it in one day. I have not read any of the author's other books. I looked up on the web a list of scottish romances and the title caught my eye. After reading the reviews, I thought to take a chance and was not disappointed, except I am not one for graphic love scenes and this romance had plenty. Other than that, it was cute and I liked it. Feel free to buy it if scottish romances catch your fancy.
AWESOME! can you say cliffhanger?! Didn't see this coming. Why do I need 11 more words? That really is annoying!
It would be difficult to find a "bad" Kinley MacGregor book!
After reading the entertaining "Master of Desire", I expected far more than I got from "Taming the Scotsman". Although there were parts of the story that held my interest, I found myself skipping tons and tons of pages of sexual play and the characters rehashing their emotional problems, trying to get back to the thread of the story. It seems to me the story should be the foundation and the sexual tension and emotional second guessing should be secondary, not primary. Highly disappointing.
I recommend this author with the highest mark. She has such a great ability to create characters we care about and we need to know that they will be alright. Her books are hard to put down ! She also writes as Sherrylin Kenyon, and that series of stories are wonderful. I've read nearly everything she's written, love her Highland warriors and strong women. You can't go wrong reading her books.
Your typical love story no surprises here. Some muscle bound git in a kilt finally finds love once a pretty face realizes deep down he is a cuddle bunny. I think this is a case of if you like this genre you will enjoy it. I bought this book for my grandmother and she enjoyed the book very much and wants me to get the rest of the series.
If you read the first book in this series, then you have read them all..... Each story is a new set of characters who flee a new drama but in the same way, they look at each other the same way, they dialect with each other the same way, blah, blah.... I was bored and disgusted by the 5th book in this series, it was as if someone whited out parts of the previous book, then inserted some new words, then called it a new book......Like that science report in 8th grade that 20 different friends "tweaked" (copied), then turned in.
